Some bus services in West and South Birmingham changed from Sunday 25th July. Following consultation with the public, the network has been reviewed to create routes that better meet the needs of local communities.
A combination of public events, focus groups and interviews earlier in the year gave the public the opportunity to help identify opportunities to simplify some bus routes to provide easier access and improve links to key destinations.
The new Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Harborne, Weoley Castle, Quinton, Northfield, Woodgate, Longbridge, Frankley, Rubery, Rednal and Bartley Green will be among the key destinations that benefit.
| Some extra bus services have been added for people in Allens Cross, Bartley Green and Weoley Castle on top of the bus improvements just introduced in west and south Birmingham.
The 49 bus now travels all the way through the Allens Cross estate, via Borrowdale Road, Norrington Road and Trescott Road. This provides residents with new connections to Kings Norton station, Cotteridge, Kings Heath, Shirley and Solihull, and more buses to Longbridge, Rubery and Weoley Castle. It also means they retain their links to Northfield. In Bartley Green and Weoley Castle, people asked for extra early morning services on the new 448/448A service to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which would be of particular benefit to people working there. National Express West Midland has arranged to put on an extra bus on Monday to Saturday mornings starting at 0555 from Bartley Green. On Sundays, the first bus from Bartley Green on the 448A was scheduled to start at 1010 but services now start from 0620. Services will now run at 0620, 0700, 0740, 0825 and 0910 from Bartley Green and 0640, 0720, 0800 and 0845 from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. |
Centro has worked in partnership with National Express West Midlands and Birmingham City Council to implement the bus review.
