Metro

As the UK’s largest conurbation outside London, the West Midlands demands a first-class public transport system. Midland Metro is at the heart of plans for an integrated public transport network which will provide accessibility for all as well as bringing regeneration benefits to our ever-expanding local cities and towns.

With high levels of support from the public for its continuing development, Metro will help to provide a much needed improvement to local transport adding to the economic and social prosperity of the region.

Metro also helps to deliver the Government’s targets on air quality, accessibility, congestion and road safety in the West Midlands.

Line 1 opened to the public in 1999 and now carries more than 5 million passengers a year between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. Travel Midland Metro operates Midland Metro seven days a week with a turn-up-and-go eight-minute frequency during the day.

Four successful Park and Ride sites along the route are well used - with one of them so popular it has more than tripled in size to 130 spaces.

Every tram has been designed to enable easy access for people with disabilities, and for people with pushchairs and buggies.

Please note: Dogs and other pets are not carried on Metro. All assistance dogs are accepted on the system
