West Midlands rail network - we want your views!

 

A draft document detailing exciting plans for the future of the West Midlands region's rail network has been published by Centro and the Regional Rail Forum, and we want your views!

The draft Rail Development Plan shows the improvements that are considered necessary to provide the right network to support the growing need for extra passenger and freight services.

Some of the possible improvements that are included in the draft plan are:

  • New and longer trains
  • Enhanced services on several routes including the Snow Hill lines and between Nuneaton, Coventry and Leamington.
  • Improved early morning, evening and Sunday services
  • Camp Hill Chord lines into Moor Street Station allowing more trains to enter central Birmingham
  • Access improvements to stations, with better connection with other transport modes like bus and extended Park & Ride facilities
  • Rail station upgrades at Moor Street, Coventry, Kidderminster and Telford
  • New stations at Coventry Arena, Bermuda Parl, Kenilworth, Stratford Parkway, Bromsgrove, Worcester Parkway and Shrewsbury Parkway
  • Reinstatement of Stourbridge to Walsall freight line
  • New or reinstated passenger lines, with new stations where necessary, on the Walsall to Wolverhampton line, the Camp Hill Line, the Tamworth line and the Sutton Park Line.

Some projects have already had funding confirmed, including:

  • Birmingham Gateway - rebuild of Birmingham New Street station
  • Birmingham Moor Street station upgrade with additional platforms
  • Wolverhampton Interchange
  • Resignalling on the Stratford, Water Orton/Camp Hill, Kidderminster, Walsall and Cannock Lines
  • Enhancements on the Bromsgrove, Redditch branchm Barnt Green to Westerleigh, and Cotswold lines as well as on the freight network
  • New deisel and electric trains
  • Longer Pendolinos
  • More carriages on Cross City and Snow Hill lines
  • Rediced journey times on Chiltern Railways services to London
