Introducing the new Signature Card

Adult signature card

Signature card is a joint initiative between Central Connect and Centro to test the first electronic purse in the West Midlands. Signature card stores money electronically and is a great alternative to using cash to pay for bus journeys. Both adult and child Signature cards are available.  The child Signature card is currently available to under 16s.

The Signature card can only be used on Central Connect Signature routes S2, S2A, S2C, S3, S4, 30 and 82.

Key benefits of Signature card

  • Save up to 30p on each journey compared to a cash fare - that could save you £3 a week!
  • A Signature card allows a negative balance so if you forget to top up you can still get home
  • Peace of mind - you can select to Auto Top Up which means your Signature card never runs out of credit
  • Simple and easy to use
  • No need to carry the correct change
  • Transferable - family and friends can share the card with you
  • Replacement cards available in case of loss or damage

How do I use my Signature card?

To pay for a journey with your Signature card, just place it next to the card reader on the bus. The cost of the journey is deducted from the value stored on the card. A ticket is printed which shows you the cost of the bus journey and the value remaining on your Signature card.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for your Signature card. You must load a minimum of £10 value each time you top up, upto a maximum of £50.

How do I add money onto the Signature card?

The easiest way to add money to your Signature card is to select Auto Top Up when you apply online.

You can also top up by making a cash payment on Signature services on routes S2, S2A, S2C, S3, S4, 30 and 82 or top up using cash or a debit/credit card at the Travel Information Centre at New Street station.

What is Auto Top Up?

Auto Top Up is the easiest way to make sure your Signature card never runs out of credit. You select Auto Top Up when you apply online.

With Auto Top Up, when the balance on your card reaches £2 it is automatically topped up with £15 value which is taken from your nominated debit/credit card.

If you decide to enable Auto Top Up at a later date, this can only be done at the Travel Information Centre at New Street station.

How do I know when to top up my Signature card?

If you select Auto Top Up when you apply, your card automatically tops up with £15 value when the stored value reaches £2.

If you did not select Auto Top Up, each time you pay for a journey using Signature card a ticket will be printed showing the cost of that journey and the balance remaining on your card. It is your responsibility to monitor the balance available and top up your card.
