HOW CAN I REQUEST THE REMOVAL OR RELOCATION OF AN EXISTING BUS STOP?
If you would like Centro-WMPTA to consider relocation, removal or other modifications to an existing bus stop, you will need to write to:-
Customer Relations,
Centro-WMPTA,
16 Summer Lane,

Please note that Centro-WMPTA may also require you to seek the written support of three ward councillors before any action can be considered. See below for the web address of your local council.
DO BUS OPERATORS PAY CENTRO-WMPTA FOR THE USE OF BUS STOPS?
Bus operators are partially recharged for the cost of cleaning and maintenance of our bus stop infrastructure, as well as the full cost of updating information when they decide to revise the routes and times of their services.
WHY DOES CENTRO-WMPTA FIT GLASS IN SOME OF ITS SHELTERS?
The toughened glass that Centro-WMPTA fits to its Showcase bus shelters is a cheaper, yet better quality product that is also easier to clean, unlike polycarbonate panels, which can discolour after exposure to some abrasive cleaning products used to remove graffiti. Where a glass shelter is being repeatedly smashed we will consider replacing the glass with more durable polycarbonate panels.
WHY DOES CENTRO-WMPTA USE CANTILEVER-TYPE SHELTERS THAT PROVIDE LESS PROTECTION FROM THE WEATHER?
We would like all our shelters to provide maximum protection from the elements. However, very often there are important highway considerations, such as pavement width, that constrain what type of shelter we can install. Sometimes cantilever shelters may have been approved safeguard the privacy of residents in nearby properties.
WHY ARE YOU REMOVING THE LAY-BYS AT SOME BUS STOPS?
The final decision on the provision of bus lay-bys rests with the local highway authority, rather than Centro-WMPTA.
Sometimes lay-bys have been filled in because they are too small for modern buses, or because of persistent obstruction by parked cars (particularly outside shops)
Buses may also have experienced difficulty pulling out into busy traffic. Occasionally, local authorities may remove them as part of a wider traffic-calming scheme in the area.
WHY ARE SOME RURAL BUS SHELTERS CONSTRUCTED OF WOOD OR BRICK?
These have been installed by local parish councils as part of their efforts to preserve the character of their villages. Although Centro-WMPTA may provide information at such stops, the shelters themselves remain the property of the parish council concerned. All maintenance issues should therefore be addressed to the parish clerk, whose address can normally be obtained from the website of the appropriate district council (see below)
DOESN'T FITTING LIGHTS AND SEATS TO A SHELTER MERELY MAKE IT A MAGNET FOR CONGREGATING YOUTHS?
Centro-WMPTA is tries to strike the right balance between making our shelters sufficiently attractive and inviting for passengers whilst not offering too tempting a target for loitering or vandalism. If you find that your local bus shelter is suffering from anti-social behaviour, you should always report your concerns to the police by calling 0845 113 5000, requesting an incident reference number where possible.
DOES CENTRO-WMPTA PROSECUTE PEOPLE WHO VANDALISE YOUR SHELTERS?
Graffiti and vandalism constitute criminal damage and Centro-WMPTA will use the full force of the law to prosecute those who engage in it. As part of the Safer Travel'Police Team, initiative, we work closely with a dedicated team of police officers based at our headquarters. They are regularly conduct surveillance operations that have successfully brought persistent offenders to justice.
Alternatively, if you have information that will enable the police to prosecute anyone who is vandalising our facilities, please call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 (calls are FREE and can be made anonymously if you prefer).
