Key to delivery of Centro's Transforming Bus Travel vision is partnership working with both the bus operators and other key stakeholders in the region to provide better services for passengers.
To deliver the improvements to bus services Centro is working over the next two to three years to deliver a series of Bus Network Reviews. Working with partners Centro has divided the West Midlands into potentially up to fifteen separate review areas based on passenger flows rather than strict district boundaries.
The First review area was in Dudley where a new network of bus services was launched in April 2008. This was followed by South Solihull in January 2009 and South Birmingham from 25th October 2009. During 2010 we will implement reviews in North Walsall that will go live on 25th April and in West Birmingham from 25th July whilst work continues to develop further review areas.
With each review area Centro, the bus operators and key stakeholders including the relevant District Council work together to deliver the best possible bus network for the passengers. Each bus route in the review area has a comprehensive pocket timetable produced showing all operators journeys and many of the bus shelters are upgraded together with an increased coverage of real time passenger information displays at bus stops. Bus operators provide new or upgraded vehicles and improved standards of customer service whilst the Distinct Council works to make improvements where possible to highway network to benefit bus services.
Key to the success of any bus network is both an increased passenger satisfaction and numbers using the services so as part of the review process Centro undertakes consultation and passenger surveys during the bus review process.
Additionally outside of the more general bus network review process Centro has worked with individual bus operators including Stagecoach where we have a partnership agreement for three of their Coventry bus routes.
