Travel Training
Knowing how to travel safely, effectively and independently is an important requirement for anyone wanting to participate more fully in society, but knowing how to use public transport can often be taken for granted by those who don't need to be taught independent travel skills formally.
However, there are many individuals such as school children, children with special educational needs and older people, individuals with learning difficulties, mobility, sensory or mental health difficulties or other vulnerable population groups who may require support, mentoring and training in order to safely use public transport.
Centro has produced a Travel Training Guide for organisations or groups wanting to set up a travel training programme. The Centro Guide also includes resources for teachers, support workers, carers and travel trainers or anyone that has an interest in improving a person's independence.
The guide was produced following research of best practice, consultation with existing travel training schemes and other stakeholders at a workshop event to determine how Centro could support independent travel throughout the West Midlands.
